During the Roman Empire, the region of Hungary was named
after Pannonia, or ‘West from the Danube River). The
Hungarian land was conquered by many different Empires and
countries during its history and after the fall of Nazi
Germany during the second world war, Hungary became part
of the Soviet Union communist state. However, much to the
happiness of Hungarians, Hungary finally declared independence
in 1989 and free elections were held in 1990. Since then,
Hungary has been welcomed into NATO and the European Union,
progressing at a quick pace both in terms of economy, standard
of living and of course opening its doors to travel and
tourism. Today, most of the Hungary travel and tourism comes
from neighboring European countries, but a large percentage
of Hungary tourism and travel comes from the United States,
Canada and Australia.
